ATTORNEY GENERAL RAOUL ISSUES STATEMENT AFTER 7th CIRCUIT DENIES TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S EFFORTS TO UNDO DISTRICT COURT’S ORDER PREVENTING TROOP DEPLOYMENT

October 16, 2025

Chicago – Attorney General Kwame Raoul issued the following statement after the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals denied the Trump administration’s request to deploy National Guard troops in Illinois, pending its appeal of the order entered last week by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

"The court's order is another win for the people of Illinois and the rule of law in our state. U.S. National Guard troops will not be seen patrolling the city of Chicago, Broadview or other communities throughout Illinois. The responsibility of addressing local crime continues to fall to state and local law enforcement officers who are best trained to protect their communities. According to the court’s order, ‘the facts do not justify the President’s actions in Illinois,’ despite the Trump administration’s claims. The bottom line remains: There is no need for troops in the state of Illinois, and my office will continue to vigorously oppose the administration’s unlawful overreach.”
