SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Bureau Chief, the Access Architect is involved in a variety of issues concerning statewide physical accessibility compliance.  The AA will participate in site inspections that may require field measurements, gather evidence, maintain an architectural case load and supervise others in the Bureau.  He or she will work with other architects, respondents, engineers, government officials and business owners to assure compliance with Illinois and federal laws, including the Illinois Environmental Barriers Act and Americans with Disabilities Act.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires licensing as a professional architect in the State of Illinois with 5-10 years architectural experience, plus working knowledge of the Illinois Environmental Barriers Act and Illinois Accessibility Code, the Americans with Disabilities Act and the ADA Standards for Accessible Design and corresponding regulations.  The position requires strong communication skills. Familiarity with reading and interpreting building code and jurisdiction comments, permits, architectural designs and construction proposals for corrective action are also requirements for this position.  Prior supervisory experience is preferred. Statewide travel is required.  Attendance and the ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public are essential functions of this position.

HOURS OF WORK:    8:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. (Monday - Friday)
