Chicago — A Lake County Grand Jury today indicted Julio Argueta on charges of driving under the influence after he was involved in a June 29 car accident in Gurnee that left three people seriously injured.

Argueta, an attorney in private practice in Waukegan and a former Lake County Assistant State's Attorney, was charged with six counts of aggravated DUI. Each count is a Class 4 felony, carrying a possible maximum sentence of 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (DOC).

Argueta allegedly turned illegally in front of an oncoming vehicle on Route 132 in Gurnee at approximately 1:45 a.m. on June 29. The driver and two passengers in the oncoming vehicle were seriously injured in the collision. Shortly after the accident, when he was receiving treatment for injuries at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Argueta allegedly had a blood alcohol level of .26.

Arraignment is set for Nov. 7, 2008.

Assistant Attorney General Neal Goodfriend is handling the case for Madigan's Special Prosecutions Bureau.

The public is reminded that these are merely charges and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
