JOB OPPORTUNITIESOFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL POSTING # 22-E-29 POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Legislative Liaison BUREAU SERVED: Legislative Affairs LOCATION: Chicago or Springfield POSITION SALARY: Commensurate with experience SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Legislative Liaison assists the Chief of Legislative Affairs with legislative matters relating to the Office of the Attorney General, including: monitoring and analyzing legislation introduced by the General Assembly to determine appropriate OAG positions and action on same; meeting with legislators and interest groups to discuss and negotiate legislative proposals and language; assisting in the drafting, development, and passage of legislation initiated by the OAG; representing the OAG at legislative committee hearings; preparing substantive briefings on legislation that significantly impacts the OAG; communicating with legislators and interest groups to advocate for legislative priorities of the OAG; helping address constituent issues raised to the OAG; drafting legislative status reports and summaries of enacted legislation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Bachelor of Arts degree and at least 2 years’ experience working on a legislative staff or in government affairs. The ability to effectively communicate, exercise discretion and good judgement, and demonstrate problem-solving skills are also requirements of the position. Attendance and the ability to maintain strong working relationships with other employees, legislators, and the general public are essential functions of this position.
