JOB OPPORTUNITIESOFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Deputy Press Secretary BUREAU SERVED: Press Office LOCATION: Chicago or Springfield SALARY: Commensurate with experience SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Press Secretary, the Deputy Press Secretary shall monitor daily media coverage, develop and maintain targeted media lists, take media inquiries, develop media responses, and write media materials including press releases, talking points and background briefings. The Deputy Press Secretary is responsible for developing and implementing proactive communication strategies that require monitoring and researching information related to office initiatives. Additional duties include assisting with the development of media outreach strategy and press conference preparation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a master’s or bachelor’s in communications, public relations or related field with five to ten years related work experience. Strong writing and editing skills, knowledge of news media and experience working with reporters and executing media strategy are required. The position requires computer proficiency and web-based research skills. The ability to speak clearly and articulately, demonstrate problem-solving skills, and take initiative are also requirements of the position. A background in government or public interest communications and experience with Internet communications including audio visual, website content, and social media strategy is preferred. Attendance and the ability to develop and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public are essential functions of this position.
