Division: Violence Prevention and Crime Victims Services - Chicago

The Violence Prevention and Crime Victim Services Division of the Illinois Attorney Generalís Office administers various programs to assist victims of crime. The division includes the Crime Victims Compensation Bureau, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program, Statewide Victim Witness Assistance, Violent Crimes Victim Assistance Bureau, Address Confidentiality Program and Illinois Victim Information Notification Everyday. The Division offers financial assistance, information and resources to both crime victims and the organizations that assist them.

Responsibilities

An Assistant Attorney General in the Crime Victimís Compensation Bureau is responsible for leading a team of claims analysts in the review and processing of applications for compensation. The attorney will be responsible for eligibility review of files using legal criteria, managing timelines for case processing, answering legal questions for support staff, maintaining statistical data for cases processed, reviewing and submitting documents for award determinations. Assistant Attorney Generals also represent the State of Illinois in Court of Claims appeal hearings, engage in personal and telephone contact with crime victims as needed, represent the office for community outreach events, and participate in presentations regarding the compensation program as needed.

Qualifications

Candidates must be licensed in the State of Illinois at the time of application. Preferred candidates will have experience working with diverse population groups, a desire to serve victims effected by various types of crime, as well as a background in criminal law and procedure. Experience managing or leading small teams is a plus. Excellent organizational skills, victim sensitivity, computer skills, and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively are essential functions of this position. Ability to speak Spanish, Polish, Mandarin, or Arabic a plus.

Salary: Salaries start at $73,548 and are commensurate with experience.
