The Attorney General’s Antitrust Bureau is responsible for enforcing the antitrust laws to prevent anticompetitive practices, and to promote competition in Illinois. The Bureau enforces Illinois’ antitrust laws and also has the authority to sue for violations of federal antitrust laws. The Antitrust Bureau investigates and challenges anti-competitive mergers, price-fixing agreements, and other illegal practices by companies, both local and national, that harm Illinois consumers and important state interests. In addition, the Bureau conducts merger reviews to determine if a proposed combination will substantially lessen competition. Investigations can be local, regional or national in scope and often are joint investigations with the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and/or other state attorneys general.


Assistant Attorneys General within the Antitrust Bureau develop and file high-profile, complex cases under state and federal antitrust laws. Antitrust attorneys work on matters ranging from price-fixing and monopolization cases to investigation of anticompetitive mergers in a broad array of industries. Antitrust AAGs also have the opportunity to work closely with other state and federal enforcement agencies.


Candidates must be licensed by the State of Illinois at the time of application. Candidates must have at least 3 years of post-graduate legal experience. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of litigation experience, including trials, and a working knowledge of the substantive law of antitrust. Background in economics and mergers and acquisitions, a plus.

Salary: Salaries start at $72,940 for candidates with the minimum three years of post-graduate legal experience.
