ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING JUSSIE SMOLLETT CASE
Chicago — Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office today issued the following statement regarding the Cook County State’s Attorney’s case against Jussie Smollett.
“The Cook County State’s Attorney has primary criminal jurisdiction over criminal matters in Cook County and has discretion in how it handles criminal cases. Cook County chose to exercise its jurisdiction in this case and as a result, the Attorney General’s office had no role in this prosecution.
“The Attorney General’s office investigates matters of public integrity based on specific and credible allegations.”
