Attorney General Lisa Madigan joins Brent Fischer, left, Adams County Sheriff, and John Spring, Mayor of Quincy, to warn Quincy-area residents impacted by flooding to protect themselves from con artists eager to exploit natural disasters for personal profit. Madigan joined local law enforcement officials at her Regional Office in Quincy to announce that the Illinois Sheriff’s Association and the Illinois Retail Merchant’s Association are partnering with her office to distribute posters with tips to avoid home repair scams to retailers and law enforcement agencies in counties affected by flooding.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan joined State Rep. John Bradley (D-Marion), left, and State Sen. Gary Forby (D-Benton) to announce a pilot program designed to track the purchases of pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in methamphetamine, during a news conference in Carterville. The program will allow law enforcement officials and pharmacies in a six-county area in southern Illinois to track these purchases through a central data base in an effort to identify and shut down the manufacture of meth in the area.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan looks on as Schaumburg resident Melissa White talks of her ordeal after refinancing her mortgage with Countrywide Home Loans, Inc., during a news conference in Chicago. Madigan filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court against Countrywide, the nation’s largest mortgage lender and servicer, alleging unfair and deceptive conduct.

6/17/08 Service Employee’s International Union Healthcare Illinois & Indiana Celebration and Inauguration

Attorney General Lisa Madigan joins members of the newly-created Service Employee’s International Union (SEIU) Healthcare Illinois & Indiana during their celebration and inauguration in Chicago. Later, Madigan joins Andy Stern, President of Service Employee’s International Union (SEIU), during the evening. The merger creates a 90,000-member union from SEIU Locals 4, 20, and 880 which represent nursing homes, hospitals, home healthcare, and child care workers, and will be the largest in Illinois.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan joins Carl Peed, Director of the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) in the U.S. Department of Justice, during the National Alliance for Model State Drug Laws’ National Chemical Control Symposium in Schiller Park. Madigan delivered the luncheon address, highlighting Illinois’ efforts to combat the spread of methamphetamine. The purpose of the symposium was to share with state and local officials, law enforcement, federal agencies and tribal representatives the most up-to-date information on state electronic tracking systems for monitoring precursor chemicals, particularly sales of pseudoephedrine (PSE). COPS was a co-sponsor for the event, whose theme was, “A Focus on Tracking Precursor Chemicals.”

Attorney General Lisa Madigan joins the Hon. Jeanne Reynolds during the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois’ 94th Annual Installation Dinner in Chicago. Judge Reynolds, an Associate Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, was sworn in as the 2008-2009 president of the association. The WBAI was established in 1914 by nine women lawyers in the Chicago metropolitan area. It was founded to promote the interests and welfare of women lawyers and to aid in the enactment of legislation for the common good and in the administration of justice.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan stands with student participants in the National Education for Women’s (NEW) Leadership Illinois Summer Institute during a visit to the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago. The week-long summer workshop is sponsored by the University of Illinois’ Institute of Government and Public Affairs (IGPA) and the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL) and is a part of a nationwide network designed to promote public service careers for women. Joining the students were State Representatives Sandra Pihos (R-Glen Ellyn), Patricia Bellock (R-Westmont), and Kathy Ryg (D-Vernon Hills).
