Jennifer Welch, right, Policy Director for Attorney General Lisa Madigan, joins Sarah Schriber of the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois on a panel discussion during the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago's 2009 Illinois Youth Summit. Welch and Schriber participated with students in discussing whether the Illinois State Board of Education should adopt a model student anti-harassment policy for public high schools that includes sexual orientation and gender identity. This was one of three policy issues that students from more than 1,200 high schools came together to explore and discuss. Now in its 14th year, the Illinois Youth Summit promotes awareness, investigation and civic action by high school students on current public policy issues affecting youth. |

Wendy Ivy, director of advocacy and volunteer services at Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center in Gurnee, discusses a situation before the panel of experts consisting of representatives from Cook and DuPage County State's Attorney's office, victim service agencies, and law enforcement officials. Terry Mutchler, Public Access Counselor for Attorney General Lisa Madigan, conducts a training on the Illinois Open Meetings Act for the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning’s (CMAP) Citizens' Advisory Committee in Chicago. Madigan’s office works with members of the public and government officials to ensure compliance with the Freedom of Information Act and the Open Meetings Act.
