2008 Safe Shopping Guide

Every year during the holiday season, Attorney General Lisa Madigan issues her annual Safe Shopping Guide that highlights hazardous toys, children’s products and household items that have been recalled over the past year to help Illinois families ensure a safe shopping season.

Madigan’s Safe Shopping Guide includes detailed descriptions and photographs of children’s products that were recalled – from popular children’s toys and games to children’s furniture, cribs and strollers. This easy-to-use resource can help families avoid recalled products on the second-hand market and items that may already be in their homes.

  • The 2016 Safe Shopping Guide includes 10 recalls of self-balancing scooters or hoverboards with defects that can cause the products to catch fire or explode. Other recalls included toys and children’s jewelry with excessive levels of lead, baby rattles that can break and cause a choking hazard for infants and several different strollers with defects that can cause injuries.

Attorney General Madigan has issued her Safe Shopping Guide every year since 2007, when a startling 44 million units of children’s products were recalled. Learn more about previously recalled children’s products below.
