Position: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Coordinator
Division: Crime Victims Services, Statewide Victim Assistance Program
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Coordinator will coordinate the 40-hour Adult/Adolescent SANE training and other training sessions provided by the Illinois SANE Training Program throughout Illinois each year. The SANE Coordinator will maintain communication with participants of the trainings after completion, encourage the development of networking relationships, assist in the completion of the clinical training component, assist in the development of SANE programs and Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART) across the state, and provide resources to nurses and other sexual assault service providers related to SANE. The SANE Coordinator will conduct topic specific research as necessary, develop and update the training curriculum as needed, develop promotional materials to highlight the SANE courses, develop model policies and protocols, work with established SANE programs across the state, participate in any statewide efforts to encourage the development of SANE or SART programming, monitor a listserv for SANE-related information and issues, and serve as a statewide contact for nurses. The SANE Coordinator will assist OAG staff with grant applications and reporting.
The position requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. A minimum of 2 years nursing experience is preferred. A valid Illinois driver's license, the ability to travel on a statewide basis, excellent communication and computer skills are required. The candidate must have the ability to work as part of a team, and individually, to accomplish goals. The position requires outstanding organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects. The ideal candidate will have completed SANE training (both didactic and clinical), have experience as a practicing SANE, be a certified SANE-A or be willing to seek national certification, and have experience planning events.
