POSITION: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Coordinator

DIVISION: Crime Victims Services, Statewide Victim Assistance Program

LOCATION: Chicago or Springfield

SALARY: Commensurate with experience

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Coordinator will develop and coordinate the curriculum for SANE 40-hour Educational Component Training and Advanced SANE Training Sessions throughout the State of Illinois each year. The SANE Coordinator will maintain communication with participants of the 40-hour course after completion, encourage the development of networking relationships to assist in the completion of the SANE certification, assist in the development of Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART) across the state, and provide resources to nurses seeking a SANE certification. The SANE Coordinator will conduct topic specific research as necessary, develop promotional materials to highlight the availability of the SANE 40-hour and 2-day courses, develop model policies and protocols, work with established SANE programs across the state, participate in any statewide efforts to encourage the development of SANE or SART programming, monitor a listserv for SANE-related information and issues, and serve as a statewide contact for nurses seeking to attain a SANE certification.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in nursing. A minimum of 2 years nursing experience is preferred. A valid Illinois driver’s license, the ability to travel on a statewide basis, excellent communication and computer skills are required. The candidate must have the ability to work as part of a team, and individually, to accomplish goals. The position requires outstanding organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects. The ideal candidate will have attended a SANE training, have some experience in the field of sexual assault advocacy and/or criminal justice, and have experience planning events.

Attendance and the ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public are essential functions of this position.
