SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains building, groups equipment and off-site storage areas by providing housekeeping, grounds keeping and repair services. Maintains supplies and equipment inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed parts; anticipating cleaning equipment replacement; placing, receiving and accounting for supplies received. Completes equipment and building repairs by performing minor plumbing, electrical and floor tile repair and by painting and assisting in office/building decorating. Maintains property inventory controls by performing annual/special inventories. Accomplishes Office/Division moves, relocations as required. Obtains office supplies and equipment by operating motor vehicles to retrieve supplies and using other machinery to transfer supplies to dock. Keeps cleaning equipment operational by following manufacturer’s operating and care guidelines; completing operator repairs and parts replacement. Maintains building interior, assisting the building engineers as required. Maintains building exterior by maintaining the lawn and surrounding landscape, including grass cutting, pruning of trees/shrubs, trims and maintains evergreens, transplanting and care of indoor/outdoor plants and flowers, ensuring proper watering, seeding, aeration, thatching, fertilization, weeding and removal of yard waste. Maintains building accessibility and appearance by removing snow and ice around the building, walkways, stairs and assigned parking lots. Maintains off-site storage for surplus equipment by organizing and accounting for property moved there. Maintains safe work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and one year experience in general janitorial work. Semiskilled mechanically and manual knowledge of operation of automotive or related maintenance equipment. Must have valid State of Illinois Drivers License. Must have the ability to perform semiskilled work and repairs. Have a basic understanding of the operation of maintenance equipment and the ability to follow written and oral instructions. Possess the ability to operate equipment in a safe manner and the physical ability in strength, dexterity and stamina. Must have the ability to bend, stoop and lift heavy objects. Must be able to maintain records in regards to maintenance equipment and operations. Related work experience may be substituted for formal education. Attendance is an essential function of this position. Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public required.
Hours of Work: 8:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
