Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Database Administrator is responsible for the maintenance of all SQL database systems, supporting disaster recovery efforts and ensuring that all access databases are properly maintained until they are converted to the SQL platform for optimal performance. Manages and maintains all production and non-production databases. Responsible for standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance, access and security administration. Performs backups and recovery on database management systems, configures database parameters and pro-type designs against logical data models, defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries and warehousing requirements. The Database Administrator works directly with the Office's programmers to design and assist in programming systems utilizing the current development tools and languages used in the industry. In addition, the Database Administrator will be expected to set up accounts in applications, learn and follow our Office's system methodology, and assist in the conversion of Access databases to SQL applications. The Database Administrator is required to work with vendor support as needed to troubleshoot issues that may arise with applications that have been purchased for the Office of the Attorney General.
This position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or 3 years of related experience in a comparable position and a minimum of 2 years experience working with Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008.
Additional requirements include knowledge and skills in:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008, replication, relational databases, and communication protocols; experience with Business Objects XI and Crystal Reports 2008 as a reporting tool; working knowledge of T-SQL with respect to error checking, error handling, optimal methods, table/procedure/trigger creations, debugging and performance tuning of stored procedures and ad hoc queries; knowledge of development with MS Visual Studio Team System 2008/2010; ability to understand all aspects of relational databases, experience with XML, Developer Express 2010, and a general knowledge of MS Access; and Java helpful but not required. The ability to provide occasional unscheduled off-hours support, maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public is required. Attendance is an essential function of this position.
Salary: Commensurate With Experience
Hours of Work: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Monday - Friday)
