The Criminal Trials Bureau seeks an experienced criminal prosecutor for an Assistant Attorney General position in the Springfield or Quincy office to handle sexual assault and other cases. Prosecutors working in this Bureau have wide-ranging duties including investigation and prosecution of all Illinois criminal offenses and proceedings. The position also provides assistance to State's Attorneys across Illinois and prosecutes cases developed by Office investigators.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
This position will coordinate and serve on the Rural Regional Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) for the region including Adams, Brown, Hancock, McDonough and Schuyler Counties. The person will work with members of the SART to improve the response to victims of sexual assault and sexual abuse in the five-county region. Duties include providing advice and support regarding sexual assault and sexual abuse investigations to law enforcement agencies; providing assistance to the State’s Attorney’s Offices in relating to the review and prosecution of sexual assault and sexual abuse cases, which includes handling motion hearings and trial work, managing extensive discovery, presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses; and working with victim advocates, rape crisis centers, hospitals, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, and campus Title IX coordinators. Additional duties will include assisting the Sexually Violent Persons Bureau civilly commit sex offenders (SVP cases) and the prosecution of other criminal cases.
Qualified candidates will have significant felony criminal (5 years at minimum) prosecution and jury trial experience that includes the sexual assault and sexual abuse cases, knowledge of mental health issues and how trauma affects the brain, and the ability to manage complex cases. Travel is required. Candidates must be licensed by the State of Illinois at the time of application.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; salaries start at $62,000.
